Welcome to Tennessee
As I cross the bridge into Memphis, it’s raining. This makes it really difficult to get the focus on the camera right (it keeps wanting to focus on the raindrops on the windshield).
I pulled into the visitor center parking lot to look up a place to stay. The rain was coming down in sheets. And by sheets, I mean the entire windshield was flooded with water. I was told later that this was the remnants of Hurricane Isaac.
When you’re in a parked car, in the middle of a tropical depression, you’re faced with a dilemma. Staying in the car, it gets hot and humid to the point of misting my glasses over. Opening the doors or windows, you get drenched.
Why not open the window on the other side? I tried that. Turns out, the rain was coming in sideways.
It got so bad that I eventually turned the engine on, solely for the air conditioning. How many times have you done that—in the rain?
About half an hour later, the rain stops completely.
